Spa Visit: The Bodhi Spa

For an experience that is truly unlike any other a day at The Bodhi Spa in Newport, RI is an absolute must.

Their gorgeous facility boasts three different pools (Epsom Salt, Dead Sea Salt, and a Cold Plunge) along with an infrared sauna, a traditional sauna, an aromatherapy steam room, and a beautiful zen garden. The locker facilities were impeccably clean, full of amenities, and made it easy to get ready for a night out after a day in spa-heaven. I was delighted to see that the spa carries Circadia by Dr. Pugliese and Eminence skincare, two brands that I carry in my own closet of endless skincare products.

The Bodhi Spa identifies as a Hydrotherapy Day Spa because it offers something much different than any other day spa in the area, the chance to rejuvenate your body and relax your mind through water therapy on their Water Journey. This therapy can be found primarily abroad and has been a trusted therapy for centuries. I must say, I may have been a bit skeptical prior to this experience. I figured... I take my Epsom salt baths every couple of weeks or so... what could this possibly do for me? My question was undoubtedly answered and I felt the experience and result myself.

The process of the Water Journey as described on the Bodhi Spa's website is as follows:

The action of heat: dilates blood vessels, causing more blood to circulate near the surface of your skin. This action bathes cells in oxygen-rich blood and allows a small amount of toxins to be released through the skin. The action of cold: constricts your capillaries, and shunts the blood to the core. It is here that the majority of toxins are removed as the blood filters through the internal organs. The blood is then replenished with fresh oxygen and pumped back to the rest of the body to begin the ongoing cycle. The process of stimulating the circulatory system with hot and cold, detoxifies and bathes your cells in fresh oxygen-rich blood; bringing youthfulness to your mind and body.

I felt it all. The process of moving between warm water, wet heat, dry heat, and cold water put my body in a state that I'm not sure I've ever felt before. I was relaxed and at the end was almost to the point of exhaustion. I may have had the best sleep of my life the night following. The hydrotherapy room is just beautiful, the moment you walk in you know that you're in the right place. The greatest result from my Water Journey was that my eczema, while currently not severe, was completely healed when I woke up the following morning. Salt pools for the win!

Following my Water Journey I enjoyed a massage that was pure bliss. The combination of the Water Journey and the massage is probably the greatest spa experience of my life. The Bodhi Spa has three treatment rooms, so if coming with a group you will want to plan your day well in advance. When planning my spa day (I came with 3 of my friends) the spa coordinator was so helpful on the phone in making sure our experience was timed perfectly.

Lastly, I have to mention the staff. Each person we encountered on our day was delightful. The high-level of hospitality was genuine and it enhanced the entire experience. I know when I work at the spa I strive to provide a great experience for every person I encounter and it is obvious to see the each person who works at the Bodhi Spa does as well.

I encourage every one to click through to the Bodhi Spa's website. They offer a one-of-a-kind experience and if you're able to visit them in Newport it will be a day unlike no other. The location is within a mile from the waterfront. My only regret is that I don't live next door to the Bodhi Spa as I would be there every chance I got!
